Submit your application online along with all required documentation. A valid C.H.I.P. Physical Ability Assessment must be submitted or provided by the required deadline. Only online applications are accepted, and all communication will be sent via email only.
Qualified candidates will be invited to take the written examination. Candidates must present a valid driver’s license and invitation notice at the test site. The pass point for this exam is 70 percent, and the result determines 100 percent of the final ranked score.
Candidates who pass the written exam are ranked and placed on an eligibility list. This list remains in effect for a minimum period of 24 months or until one-third of the list has been drawn. Candidates are advanced through the process as hiring needs dictate.
The Town of Greenwich conducts an extensive background investigation covering personal and work history. This includes fingerprinting, a criminal record search, motor vehicle record review, education verification, and a credit check as required by State standards. A candidate’s overall suitability may also be evaluated based on prior law enforcement history, substance use, and conduct related to integrity.
Candidates complete a departmental interview to evaluate their compatibility with the Greenwich Police Department. This step focuses on professionalism, judgment, and overall fit.
Candidates who receive a conditional offer must complete several evaluations. These include a polygraph examination, a psychological evaluation, a comprehensive medical examination, and a physical ability test at the 40th percentile. The psychological, medical, and physical assessments are pass or fail.
Final candidates must successfully complete the Police Training Academy. Continued employment is conditional upon successful completion of the probationary period. Candidates may be required to re-qualify in certain areas prior to academy entry in accordance with academy regulations.
Failure to complete any step in the process will result in disqualification. All communication and notifications are sent via email only.
Candidates must meet all State and Town of Greenwich requirements throughout the process.
